If you have been a lover of Samsung's TouchWiz interface seen on most of its high end phones, rejoice! Samsung has announced the availability of its Mobile Widget SDK, which means that the UI is now open to third parties who can develop widgets for it.

Samsung's TouchWiz UI runs on a variety of smart-phone platforms including Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android and Samsung's own proprietary OS. The best thing with the SDK is that the widgets developed using this SDK will be compatible across all these platforms. If you are a developer, visit Samsung Developer Camp for download and other information. Note that you need to have a free Samsung Mobile Innovator account in order to download stuff from there.

To kick-off the launch of the Samsung Mobile Widget SDK, Samsung will host its first Widget Developer Camp from Sept. 11-13. The camp will provide select developers with the opportunity to hear from the Samsung Mobile Innovator team about the program and develop unique widgets using the SDK for a chance to win cash prizes. At the end of the Widget Developer Camp, a panel of VIP judges will select a winner in each category, who will be awarded a $5,000 prize individually. The judges will award one 'Best in Show' winner, who will receive $20,000 and the opportunity to attend CTIA IT & Entertainment 2009 in San Diego from Oct. 7-10 and have his/her widget showcased in Samsung's booth.

Mobile numbers to begin with 8 now

Posted by neeraj on Thursday, July 2, 2009 , under , , | comments (0)

Soon, mobile phone companies are expected to issue cell phone numbers beginning with 8. The country’s cellular subscriber base has been growing substantially over the last couple of years, which led to the exhaustion of the existing sublevels of 9. Expecting a similar growth over the next few years, DoT is considering an 11-digit numbering system from next year. Currently, China and UK are the two countries which use the 11 digit numbering system.

With the new numbering series being available, mobile companies are likely to auction some of the special numbers, particularly in newer rural markets either through their websites or through customer service outlets. In the past, companies like BSNL, Idea, Tata Teleservices , Vodafone, Airtel etc have auctioned special numbers thus earning large sums of money, particularly from politicians and businessmen. In August 08 alone, state-owned BSNL earned Rs 1.15 crore from the auction of 2000 numbers. Hutch (now Vodafone) sold the most expensive number so far at Rs 15 lakh in 2007 to a Ludhianabased businessman. Tata Teleservices routinely auctions cellular numbers on its website, with prices ranging from Rs 10,000 to over Rs 1 lakh.

If remembering 10-digit mobile phone numbers is hard task for you, soon you'll have an addition to the problem.

Sharapova Unveils Blinking Phone Dress

Posted by neeraj on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 , under , | comments (0)

Maria Sharapova presented a prototype dress to reporters that is designed to light up when the wearer's mobile telephone rings.

British fashion student Georgie Davies dreamed up the knee-length short-sleeved white dress as part of a school project with mobile phone-maker Sony Ericsson to figure out ways of incorporating new technology into fashion. Davies said the dress is designed to eventually be connected to the wearer's phone by Bluetooth wireless technology, so she can be alerted to a call even in noisiest of places.

"When you're in a pub or a bar, you can never, ever hear your phone," 20-year-old Davies told Reuters on Wednesday. One shoulder of the dress down to the hip is embellished with translucent white scales that move and light up.

Sharapova showed off the dress to a gaggle of photographers and a crowd of passers-by from the window of a luxury department store in central London.

One more addition to the huge list of enhancements is voice control, just hold down the home button for a few seconds and say commands like “what’s playing now” or "Play song name". Voice Control can be used in any application and and the possible voice commands start floating on the screen as you press and hold the home button.

The iPhone 3GS also has a built-in digital compass, hardware data encryption, New accessibility settings and as one of Apple's Go Green act, it uses greener materials and packaging.
